Spencer taught about music. He told us that music can be a great thing as well as something EVIL. For those of you how know me you know music is a huge thing in my life so this lesson intrigued me more than any lesson we have had and probably more then any more we will have.
We were asked what kind of music we like. Everybody said rock a few said screamo :D. So he focused all his power on the rock and roll area of music. He asked us why we liked it. We got various answers, I agreed with some; from it pumps me up to it helps me focus. Spencer followed this by telling us about Elvis and at the end he asked me if I knew how he died I replied by saying, "He over dosed and died on the can eating a jelly filled donut" he said all I needed was the O.D. part but OK so he told us how the roots of something will affect it until it makes it prosper or until it kills it. Which was and is right. But we have to remember how far we have come from the days of Elvis and the Beatles. We now have bands that range from underOath to white chapel. Our music can sound the same but have totally different meanings underOath sings about fighting through persecution at the same time white chapel sings about persecuting. So I asked Spencer doesn't it say in the Bible music is a gift from God ? He said yes. So I said, as long as what they are singing is not a sin. He said i guess so. So music can and can not be a sin.
Later on Spencer talked about music and the effects on other living organisms. He told us there was a box with a tube that led to another box an one box they played Bach in the other box they played acid rock (Screamo) and the mice went to the room playing Bach then the boxes switched music and the rats went over to the other box. Another study is they put hamsters into a box and played Maiden and the hamsters killed each other (that's inhumane ). Spencer likes these test things because we had a third it was when plants were placed in a room with classical music it grew quickly but when placed in a room playing metal it withered and died (that is awesome). After that we prayed and played football.
To sum it up music can be good or bad depends on the people and the meaning behind it.
Spencer... Mortar teacher extraordinaire.

Nice Evan...you done did me proud.
ReplyDeleteUmm, yeah my goal wasn't to tell you what you should or shouldn't listen to, but simply to get you to honestly discuss music and share thoughts and experiences. Whether it be what you thought was "good" music, or how certain music made you feel. Then I wanted to present you with some scientific facts about music to get you thinking, and challenge you to ask God if the music you were listening to was benefiting you. So yeah, well done...see you at Mortar Groups tomorrow.
